The Rebirth of Writing in Schools

The truth about writing and kids is: They’re doing more of it. Texting, blogging, contributing to wikis, even emails. It’s not dead as a skill; it’s evolving. Kids like to talk about themselves and the New Writing gives them a chance to do that on a grand scale–Facebook, Myspace, blogs, texting. You might think their posts are poorly disciplined, rottenly grammared, but think again. Our challenge as teachers is to grow with our students, teach them in a way they will listen.
