Tech Tips for Writers #96: Open a Program Maximized

Tech Tips for Writers is an (almost) weekly post on overcoming Tech Dread. I’ll cover issues that friends, both real-time and virtual, have shared. Feel free to post a comment about a question you have. I’ll cover it in a future Tip.

Q: How do I open the internet maximized on my screen.Clicking that tiny square in the upper right corner is fine, but do I have to do it every time I open a browser?

A: I got this question from a reader. Here’s how you open the internet–or most programs–maximized rather than in that annoying smaller size that makes it difficult to maneuver:

  • Right click on the program icon
  • Select Properties>Shortcuts
  • Select the dropdown menu by Run and choose Normal window

open program maximized

That’s it.

  1. Hi Jaquie. I love this site thank you for sharing! I was hoping you would have some advice for someone (me ) who is just finding her passion in writing and starting out? I have not taken any related schooling I just love writing even if nobody reads my work. I just started a blog as an outlet, do you have any suggestions on how I can get the most out of my blog or my new found passion? Thank you!🙂

    • My advice is to learn the craft of writing–take classes, read advice blogs, read your genre. Then, break any rule you want as long as you know you did it and why. Which is not the same as ignoring the rules. And when it seems difficult, persevere. Reapply yourself. That’s when success is close and you’ll appreciate it. I can tell from your blog that you aren’t afraid of change. That is a fundamental trait for writers, one that can’t be taught. You are way ahead of so many others!
