Happy Memorial Day

I’m taking the day to honor our all soldiers on America’s Memorial Day. Without their sacrifice, where would we be?

I tried to keep the videos to three and failed miserably. Once I got started watching, I got lost.

  1. Many people don’t know that “Saving Private Ryan” (the movie Hymn to the Fallen was written for) was based (somewhat) on a true story of brothers serving during World War II. It was a beautiful tribute. It was good to hear all the stanzas of The Battle Hymn of the Republic (many people only know about the first one) and – well, all appropriate videos for a day of remembrance.

    • Thanks for that extra bit of information, Alana. I think I knew that… once! And the Battle Hymn does have a lot of wonderful stanzas though most people don’t get past the first!

  2. Beautiful tributes. It seems each year we become busier and it becomes easier to forget what we never should. Recently I was in line at a store and saw the woman in front of me buying plastic flowers for a grave. It took me back in time to cemetery visits on Memorial Day as a child. It’s a reference you don’t see as often any more.

  3. Jacqui,

I loved your mewsical tribute to our fallen. You introduced some fabulous new tunes to me. I love John Williams’ “Hymn to the Fallen” that he composed for the film SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. It seems I did see that movie but it’s been too long ago. It’s really hard for me to watch war movies. Soldiers march into battle so brave ready to give their all to preserve freedom. I’m proud of each one. It’s a small thing to take time to honor those who have fallen. You did a fabulous job with your mewsic choices. I, especially liked Johnny Cash’s age voice singing, “I Won’t Back Down” over Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers’ original as I felt the conviction in his words a thousand times more. I invite you to link this post up on Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me! You don’t have to be a regular to play, ok? Just join the fun, my friend! Have a great week. 🙂

  4. What a fab post, Jacqui! I’m glad you kept going. I would have sat here all night no matter how many you shared. I’m not a proponent of war for any reason, but I honor and respect our men and women in the military. Thank you for this lovely tribute to those who selflessly serve ❤️

  5. Hi Jacquie – it is a time for feeling the blessing of peace – which we hope will spread through the world. So many served and so many so sadly lost … thank you – have a thankful day – Hilary
