I am so excited to join blogging buddy Tyrean Martinson in launching her latest book, Liftoff: The Rayatana Series, Book 1
A spaceship in disguise,
An Earth girl searching for a sense of home,
And a Thousand Years’ War between alien races,
All collide on a summer afternoon.
I’ve just gotten back into sci fi (thank you, Alex Cavanaugh and your amazing Cassa series) so this looks wonderful. Here’s the blurb:
An old movie theater welcomes Amaya in and wraps her up in the smell of popcorn and licorice. But one sunny afternoon during a matinee, the movie screen goes dark. The theater rumbles.
Amaya gets trapped in the middle of an ancient alien conflict. Angry and frightened, Amaya entangles herself in a life-changing cultural misunderstanding with Sol, a young alien who keeps omitting key information, even while they’re on the run from his enemies.
What will it take to survive a battle between alien races involved in an ancient war?
Liftoff is a fast-paced read for fans of Code 8, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Cobra Kai.

About the Author:
Tyrean Martinson is an author and teacher from Washington State. As a former fencer and kickboxer, she enjoys writing fight scenes in fast-paced novels and novellas. As a teacher and writing tutor, she loves to get students writing and reading comfortably by any means: talk-to-text, short writing assignments, short stories, novellas, and adventures. She wrote her latest novella, Liftoff, for herself during COVID, but realized it also fits a dream she’s had for a while: to create a short, fast-paced read for teen/YA readers who love popcorn movies, adventure, and sweet romance.

Jacqui Murray is the author of the popular Building a Midshipman, the story of her daughter’s journey from high school to United States Naval Academy, the Man vs. Nature saga, and the Rowe-Delamagente thrillers. She is also the author/editor of over a hundred books on integrating tech into education, adjunct professor of technology in education, blog webmaster, an Amazon Vine Voice, a columnist for NEA Today, and a freelance journalist on tech ed topics. Look for her next prehistoric fiction, Laws of Nature, Summer 2021.
This sounds exciting, Jacqui. Apparently sci fi is the second biggest genre of books, with romance being the leader.

Didn’t know either of those. I would have thought thrillers. I actually lean more toward sci fi than thrillers these days.

I started when I discovered Elon Musk and all of his space goals and dreams. How cool is the future.

My family is a martial arts family (a cousin to kickboxing), I used to be a writing professor, and you know I’m a sci-fi fan, so I couldn’t be more in Tyrean’s corner. Rooting her on in a HUGE way. Congratulations and best wishes to her. Thanks for hosting, Jacqui.

Didn’t know that about you, Staci. I have two kids who are black belts in Shaolin Kenpo karate. Which martial art is yours?

My son is a 2nd degree black belt in tae kwon do. My daughter is a 1st degree black belt. I got up to green before we moved. The kids also learned grappling, some kung fu and were starting jiu jitsu.

Thanks for the introduction to Tyrean’s book, Jacqui. I’ve never read in the sci fi genre, but I did love Lost in Space as a kid. Enjoy your day!

I’m just getting back into that genre. I used to love Star Trek, got away from it.
